"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye
in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way,
and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they
said, We will not walk therein."
(Jeremiah 6:16)
The book of Jeremiah is a wonderful book. The
prophet Jeremiah is exhorting the nation of Judah to REPENT and RETURN
to God! Our text verse is a powerful summary of the message of Jeremiah.
1. Judah had a PATTERN of REBELLION.
(Jeremiah 3:6
- 11)
2. Jeremiah was PREACHING REPENTANCE!
(Jeremiah 3:12,
3:22, 4:1)
3. Jehovah has PATHS of RIGHTEOUSNESS.
(Jeremiah 6:16)
-SEARCH for the Old Paths.
-SEE the Old Paths.
-STAND in the Old Paths.
-STAY on the Old Paths!
*Modern society is consumed with progress. The
world places importance upon moving forward. The Word of God exhorts
us to go BACK TO THE PAST!
"For I am the LORD, I change
not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed."
(Malachi 3:6)
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday,
and to day, and for ever."
(Hebrews 13:8)
I. The Old WAY of
SALVATION!
A.
The Way is Singular!
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the
way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but
by me."
(John 14:6)
"Neither is there salvation in
any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among
men, whereby we must be saved."
(Acts 4:12)
B.
The Way is Simple!
"And they said, Believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
(Acts 16:31)
"That if thou shalt confess with
thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath
raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
(Romans 10:9)
C. The Way is Secure!
"He that believeth on the Son
hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not
see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
(John 3:36)
"My sheep hear my voice, and
I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life;
and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my
hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and
no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father
are one."
(John 10:27 - 30)
II. The Old WORSHIP
of the SAVIOUR!
A. True Worship is Spiritual!
"But the hour cometh, and now
is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in
truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a
Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and
in truth."
(John 4:23 - 24)
B. True Worship is Scriptural!
"Let the word of Christ dwell
in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts
to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
(Colossians 3:16 - 17)
C. True Worship is to the Saviour!
"Unto him be glory in the church
by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."
(Ephesians 3:21)
"And when those beasts give glory
and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever
and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the
throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns
before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and
honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure
they are and were created."
(Revelation 4:9 - 11)
*Worship:
1. "To feel deep, devoted love for"
2. "To regard with great awe and devotion"
III. The Old WALK of the
SAINTS!
A. The Walk is Sanctified!
"For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained
that we should walk in them."
(Ephesians 2:10)
B. The Walk is Separated!
"Wherefore come out from among
them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing;
and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be
my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."
(II Corinthians 6:17 - 18)
C. The Walk is Shining!
"But the path of the just is
as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day."
(Proverbs 4:18)
"Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is
in heaven."
(Matthew 5:16)
*I'd Rather be an Old-Time Christian than anything
I Know!
*May God help us to go BACK TO THE PAST!
